“I just wanted to drop a line and say the tracks was super awesome. I will be encouraging clients to use you for most all projects in the future.”- studio owner P. Rodgers, Saluda, S.C.

In today from Kim Berry of Citrus Heights, CA:

“I did a rough mix last night and blown away by the quality. The bass line is exactly what I envisioned. All of the musicians captured the essence of the song – up to that “grand finale” at the last beat. Banjo – fiddle – guitar parts … Everything fit.

I’m used to working with separate samples for chorus and verse – much faster when it’s one sample for the complete song – and the sync was perfect too – no latency to adjust for.”

“Miles And Miles” video released. Your song, our production= You Tube success!

Dan Thompson’s just-released video of the song he wrote for his long haul trucker son who tragically died when he fell asleep and crashed his rig about two months after Dan wrote it. Dan and his band are “lip syncing” and “air guitaring” to the track the Nashville Trax A team played on.

This video was made after Dan’s first trip here to record his vocals on three Dan Thompson penned tunes that producer, Bill Watson, arranged and produced prior.

A simple-to-shoot-and-edit video like this can be posted on You Tube as Dan has done. It’s extremely useful for promotion of your live shows and adding fans to your database, or if you don’t perform, you can monetize the video itself and get paid for the short ads that run each time someone clicks on it. One of our clients has made several of these videos, hiring actors to perform in fairly elaborate videos to the tracks we produce of songs he writes. He has hundreds of thousands of You Tube clicks on several of them and has quite a successful business going.

2-23-16 Bill Watson (center) and Shawn Conley (center) producing/engineering Dan Thompson’s  vocals on 5 additional tunes Dan (pictured left, in booth) wrote to complete the album. Dan has one more meeting to hopefully seal a distribution deal through Sony.

Make your vacation to the U.S. and the Nashville area a memory you’ll never forget!

Record with world class musicians, get pics of your recording experience you can post to your friends on Facebook! Get session charts signed by the Nashville musicians and producer!

The Danny Thompson Band single, Miles and Miles (distributed by Sony) which was recorded here, has given Nashville Trax unexpected exposure overseas.

Airplay in the U.K., Australia, Canada and other places has prompted potential clients who live in those countries to seek us out. The sessions have been low pressure, great fun and the clients left with great recordings. Some do cover tunes, some do originals.

It’s so much fun for us to meet people who live in other countries, trade stories and make some great music!

If you, or a member of your family sings or plays an instrument and you are about to vacation in the U.S., why not take advantage of the opportunity to do some music in Nashville?

This is your chance to record with world class musicians, the best on the planet!

Some of our overseas clients did only cover tunes, others only originals. Grace Kelly of New Zealand (pic #1) did both.

“Thanks Bill, I wants to say thanks for your patience, professionalism and support of Grace. Sunday was a big step for her. The guys were all outstanding AND were all great musos too. Loved your bass playing, your lines on her own song really made the track. We can start planning the next project. Best to you and the guys.” Brian (Kelly)

This from our clients from Germany:

“Hi Bill,

Feel free to post the mixes on the website.  They really sound great, thanks again to both Shawn and you.

 Best regards from Berlin

Review: Les Paul 2016 Studio Series Guitars

Just in from a second go-round of trying out the Les Paul studio series guitars at the local Sam Ash store.

Reason for the trips:

We use a variety of session guitarists on projects, I’m normally the bass player but occasionally lower budget clients will hire me as a “one man band” of sorts, including my lead and rhythm  guitar skills.

I have plenty of acoustics of all types (6 string, 12 string, gut string, etc.) available for tracking at the studio and a great Telecaster and Stratocaster, but I needed a better rock tone.

So I headed to Sam Ash and tried the “worn black” Les Paul Studio series on day one. I plugged  up to a Marshall stack and ran it through all sorts of riffs, chord sequences and licks all over the neck. It sounded very good. The Burstbucker Pro PAF-style pickups provided plenty of bite. Their out the door price was quoted at $730, Sam Ash web site price: $799.

I decided to sleep on it and do more research.

Digging deeper, I liked the Alpine White Les Paul 2016 T Studio model with gold trim but it was priced at $1,499 ($1,399 out the door) and it came with  490R & 498T neck & bridge pickups that were getting mostly horrible reviews online.

Returning to the store a couple of days later I intended to buy the “worn cherry” version at the $799 price point but thought I’d give the higher priced version a whirl first, just to cover all bases. It was quickly apparent the more expensive guitar had a meatier tone, more harmonic richness, better sustain and, in general, sounded like a Les Paul should sound .It also has the ability to split the coils providing tons of tonal variation.

There’s more to a guitar’s tone than pickups but obviously the 490/498 combo are getting a bad rap. They sound great. Better than the much heralded Burstbuckers in my opinion.

So I tried the worn Cherry through the same amp and although the tone was very good, it lost in the comparison test. Much thinner, less sustain.

I ended up purchasing the more expensive Alpine White Les Paul 2016 T Studio version. Your mileage may vary, and it deoens on what type of material you’ll be playing, but if you’re in the market for a Les Paul Studio I’d advise at least trying out both models. Forget the reviews you’ve read with your eyes, instead, listen with your ears. I won’t be at all surprised if you come to the same conclusion- B.E. Watson

ChrisKringleOnStrike

He may not be coming this year! According to this song we just finished recording, Santa is too stressed out to do his Christmas Eve duty!

Santa Is Going On Strike: a light hearted, fun song aimed at country radio with a “pull-’em-out-of-their-seats” dance groove and some “bro-country rap/hip hop” sections program directors should consider adding to their playlist.

Are you a recording artist? You might wish to add “Santa” to your upcoming Christmas album. (If you haven’t recorded a Christmas album yet, stay in the business long enough and you will, you WILL!).

Take a listen to this clip:

The full version has two sections where it deviates from the Blake Sheltonish “All About Tonight” country rhythm: one section is pure rap, the second, hip hop style.
