Six Songwriters Signed

Sony Music Publishing, Nashville

Sony Music Publishing, Nashville

Song Factory is reporting the signing of 6 songwriters to their roster. They are an indie song publishing company with connections to several labels including Capital and Sony.

It may sound like your dream job (and this is not regarding SF specifically) but depending on the company and who they’re signing, a staff position can pay well or poorly. If you have written or co-written several hit songs, you generally are less risk and get a better paycheck. There are many staff writers who are signed as staff writers but get no pay so they must work a day job and write songs when they can.

Sound familiar?- b.e.

Florida Georgia Line in Rolling Stone

There’s an interesting interview in Rolling Stone with the hottest act in country music, Florida Georgia Line. It’s comforting to know that the duo, Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley, does keep Jesus in mind for their bus parties:

Rolling Stone Interview

Hey guys, how does that work exactly?

Florida Georgia Line Scores Second #1!

Tyler Hubbard continues to impress as both a singer and songwriter (he was one of four co-writers on the tune). “Get Your Shine On” This is Florida-Georgia Line’s second #1 Billboard Country hit! (see the post above regarding “Cruise” which was their first #1.)

They also have the “Cruise” remix with Nelly on the Hot 100 and the original release of “Cruise” has broken a 52 year old record set in 1962: http://www.theboot.com/2013/05/28/florida-georgia-line-set-billboard-record-with-cruise/

Anytime a new act has a level of success song publishers are on the lookout for similar material and Florida-Georgia Line is in the midst of being one of the biggest/fastest breakthrough acts in the history of country music. Fun loving songs are what Fla-Ga Line is about so penning something in that vein right now may stamp your ticket to success also.

Singer/songwriter Drew Baldridge based in Patoka, Illinois, has signed a co-publishing contract with This Music (partners with Warner/Chappell) partially due to the strength of his performances at venues in Southern Illionois. We’ve seen it again and again. A lot of signings happen due to building a fan base locally, often through social media. Bloom where you’re planted.

Former PIAD singer Krista Marie Taking The Farm to Australia

Krista Marie

Former Play It Again Demo’s singer Krista Marie who joined The Farm (on Warner Brothers) a few months ago will be performing with them at a gig in Australia Sunday, March 17th.

Krista sang on many Play It Again Demos over a period of several years as well as singing lead vocals on the swing tune “Borrowed Time” for the John Smith Nashville Trax project.

Her first break came when she landed a job on Nashville Star as a personal assistant to Alabama‘s Randy Owen, who was on Broken Bow at the time, the same label Krista later signed with.

Unfortunately almost all artist signings include clauses preventing singers from using their voice to make money for anything except furthering their aspirations with the label. So after becoming a Broken Bow artist Krista could no longer work for us. But we love to hear about our former singer’s career building efforts and wish her all the luck possible.

The Farm’s current single is called, “Be Grateful.”

Country Breakout Awards

NashvilleThe Country Breakout Awards were held at Margaritaville on Broadway, Nashville 2-26-13 with Dierks Bentley winning male vocalist of the year and Miranda Lambert taking female vocalist if the year honors.

Dierks accepted in person and gave a shout out to his fan club sitting in the front row.

Also, Taylor Made received Independent Artist of the Year while Capitol Nashville won label of the year. The company had over 1/3rd of the 32 No. 1 songs in 2012.

This week’s breakout chart reveals Kacey Musgraves Merry Go Round at #1, replacing last week’s #1, Taylor Swift’s Begin Again, which dropped to #4. Blake Shelton’s Sure Be Cool is at #2 and the above mentioned Florida Georgia Line’s “Get Your Shine On” climbed one position to #11.
